A sub-judge has been suspended from service by the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) High Court after a complaint was filed against him by the Bar Association, Uri.

At a Full Court resolution passed on Thursday, the decision to suspend Imtiyaz Ahmed Lone was taken.

The order issued by the J&K High Court Registrar General, Jawad Ahmad, stated that, as a consequence of the Full Court resolution dated 31-12-2020, a regular inquiry was initiated against Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone, Sub-Judge Uri and pending such inquiry, he was immediately suspended and attached to the Registrar Judicial, Srinagar wing of the High Court.

It further stated that a subsistence allowance was to be paid as admissible under the rules.

The president of the Bar Association, Uri, Shamim Ahmad Chalkoo, confirmed to Bar & Bench that the Bar Association had filed a complaint against Lone a few days back.

A preliminary inquiry against Lone was initiated in this regard by the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Baramullah. The report was forwarded to the High Court pursuant to that inquiry, after which the High Court decided to detain him.

Noor Mohammad Mir, Secretary of DLSA Kupwara, has now been transferred by the High Court to the position of Sub-Judge, Uri, in place of Lone. To that effect, the notification was also issued on Thursday.
